Why get Google reviews?

Google reviews are a free and effective way to grow your business. They help you boost your online reputation, improve your rank in organic search, and increase revenue.


Did you know that 79% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations from friends or family? Also, 82% of consumers say positive reviews make them more likely to use a business.


Reviews are essentially the new age word of mouth!



Google My Business 101

First things first:

  • You must create a Google My Business account (it's free).

  • You must follow Google’s terms of service.

  • You must verify your business on Google.

As a business owner with a Google My Business account, you have the ability to respond to all Google reviews on your business. This can easily be done on both desktop and mobile.


Personally, I like doing so through the Google Maps app. It's easy to use and can be done as soon as a review comes in. Also, you can set a weekly reminder to respond to reviews if you want to do so in bulk.


Here are 10 tips to get more five-star Google my business reviews.


1) Provide a fantastic customer experience

People can get sub-par service anywhere. If you want five-star Google My Business reviews, you have to bend over backward for your customers.


Understand what differentiates your business from everybody else and leverage this in how you run your business



2) Ask customers to review your business on Google

The vast majority of businesses don't even ask for reviews.


If you're a business owner you're not always at your business, empower and incentivize your team to do this.


3) Promote Google reviews through internal marketing

Simply create a custom QR code at check out for your customers to scan that takes them directly to your Google My Business page to leave a review.


Google also has its own small business marketing website where you can generate internal marketing swag, posters, and stickers that can be displayed throughout your business.


4) Feature customer reviews on your website and link out to your Google My Business profile

Once you start to acquire and gain more traction on Google My Business, feature those reviews on your website.


In doing so, it provides social proof to customers visiting your website that you’re a fantastic business to support!


5) Ask for Google reviews on social media

If your business has a strong social media presence, ask your followers to review you on Google.


Put together an authentic video on how much you appreciate your customers and share it on social. You’ll be surprised by the support you receive!


6) Email blast past customers to support your business through a Google review

If you've been in a business for a while and you have customer email addresses, send them an email to support you through sharing their feedback in a Google review.


7) Convert customer surveys into Google reviews

I highly recommend that you send customers follow up surveys to rate their experience.


In doing so, you're going to collect a lot of feedback on how you can improve your business.


Most survey software provides customers with the option to share their feedback on Google. This is a great way to drive more traffic to your Google My Business page.


8) Ask your network to review your business on Google

Your biggest fans are your family, friends, colleagues, and vendors you work closely with.


If they're a customer of your business, ask them to review your business on Google!


9) Respond to ALL Google reviews

When a new review comes in, whether it's positive, neutral, or negative, respond to that review ASAP.


In doing so, you're showing your appreciation for customer feedback and taking the initiative to be proactive towards all forms of feedback.


10) A Google review power tip!

This power tip has been more successful than all the strategies outlined up until this point!


Send your customers a text message the day after they were at your business and thank them for coming. Also, ask for them to provide feedback on their experience. In doing so, you will see a massive increase in the volume of Google reviews you’re receiving.
